Metro Manila, more commonly known as the National Capital Region, is composed of 16 cities: Manila, Quezon City, Caloocan, Las Piñas, Makati, Malabon, Mandaluyong, Marikina, Muntinlupa, Navotas, Parañaque, Pasay, Pasig, San Juan, Taguig, and Valenzuela. According to the 2015 Census, the population within Metro Manila reached 12,877,253, with Manila being the most densely populated city in the entire world. We pride ourselves in being the only Catholic Asian country, which can sometimes be a problem when we are unable to separate church from state. We are also known for having poor urban planning. Now, Filipinos have to deal with excessive traffic, public transport crises, and very few open areas and public spaces. Aside from that, poverty and income inequality are also two very important issues that we have been unsuccessful in reducing.
